On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Every child is born upon the Fitrah (Natural Disposition). Then it's the two parents that turn the child into a Jew,a Christian or a Magian."

Imaam an-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:
"In this narration there's evidence of teaching the children to be upon the obedience of Allaah and getting them accustomed to performing the acts of worship. However, they are not Mukallafoon (Those who are held to account for the obligations)." (Explanation of Saheeh Muslim)
