The Advice Of Shaykh, Al-‘Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan To The Female Students
O Noble Female Students
22/1/1432 corresponds to 28/12/2010

There is no doubt that the woman enjoys a lofty station in Islam and that she has a great responsibility upon her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to devote a specific admonition to the women after he had finished admonishing the men; and they [i.e. the female companions] sought from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a specific gathering where they could present their problems to him and he responded [positively] to their request and he allotted for them a specific gathering.

And likewise you, O noble students, should prepare yourselves for this great responsibility. Therefore, it is obligatory upon you to learn the affairs of the religion and the rulings that are specific to the women, which will meet your requirements.

There has come in the noble Quran verses and surahs that are specific to women and the like is found in the PropheticSunnah. An example of this [from the Sunnah] is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “Treat the women kindly.”

Similarly, he (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against their fitnah if they are negligent, saying: “Fear the [allurement] of the women. Verily the first trial of the children of Isra’eel was with the women.” And he said: “I have not left after me a trial more severe to the men than the women.”

All of this proves that the woman has a very important role. This is because the women are the mothers of the society and they are the pillar of the households.

Allah, the Most High said:
Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allāh has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allāh would have them guard. [An-Nisaa: 34]

And Allah, the Most High said:
Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allāh often and the women who do so – for them Allāh has prepared forgiveness and a great reward. [Al-Ahzaab: 35]

And Allah, the Most High said:
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. [Tawbah: 71]

He, the Most High said,

The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right.
[At-Tawbah: 67]

He, the Exalted mentioned that among the women there are Muslims and Mu’minaat (believers), and there are hypocrites and polytheists. So it is upon you, O female students, to understand these verses and act upon them.

And it is upon you to act upon those verses that contain the mannerisms and etiquettes to be observed by the women; He, the Most High said,

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts.
[An-Noor: 31]

And He, the Most High said,

O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.
[Al-Ahzaab: 59]

O noble female students, be wary of the misleading propaganda, which claims that Islam oppresses the woman because surely they have lied. Verily Islam has honoured the woman, protected her and safeguarded her rights.

In reality, those who have oppressed the woman are those who desire for her to forsake the legislated mannerisms and etiquettes which protect her dignity and show her compassion; and they want her to imitate the disbelieving western woman who has reached such an ignoble and dishonourable state where she lives with despicable individuals in exchange for the usage of her private parts [i.e. as a sex object] for as long as she is young and when she becomes old she is thrown into an old people’s home or she lives with a pack of dogs with which she keeps company as she has no children or family.

Where is she compared to the Muslim woman who lives in a fortified house, heads a family, takes care of her husband’s wealth, raises a generation and enjoys such a prestigious place in her society!

Part 3 to follow insha Allah...
