Advice to the Women from Shaykh Al-Albaanee

The Advice of Shaykh Al-Albaanee to Women who act like men

Question:
O our Shaykh, we have heard that some of the women present within some of the universities, schools, and colleges or some of the women who deliver lectures, (give) lessons or even recite the Qur’aan specifically on the morning broadcasts (we have heard that) these womens’ husbands are never able to enjoy them because they are Mutarajjilaat (i.e. they imitate men or are masculine). We would like some clarity from you as it relates to this question.

Answer:
The principle as it relates to this issue is a poor upbringing. From the reasons for the poor upbringing is the corruption of the society and corruption of the curriculums which the education of the men and women or male and female youth are predicated upon their foundation. That is because the female students in the schools, I am almost certain, have not heard the likes of his (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) statement:

لعن الله الرَجُلة من النساء
“May Allaah curse the manly women.”

Likewise, the other Hadeeth which ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated saying: “Allaah’s Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) cursed the men who resemble women and the women who resemble men.” I believe that the female students who graduate from the high schools or from that which is above that, then likes of this Hadeeth or that Hadeeth (the first one) has not crossed their ears. And if it be that either of them has crossed their ears on any day, then it is from that which goes in one ear and out of the other ear. Because the curriculums which are taught or the lessons which are given on the basis of them do not allow the teacher, even if she may be religious, to go over the likes of this subject.
It is known within the legislation, and according to the people who have knowledge regarding it, that the basic principle with the man is that he goes out of his home to work for the benefit of his family and his children. On the contrary, the basic principle regarding the woman is that she remains sheltered within her house and that she does not go out of it acting in accordance with the statement of her Lord, the Blessed and High:

وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَى
“And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance…” (Al-Ahzaab 33:33)

So when the woman came to be like the man; going out in the morning, and returning in the evening; then she came to be, in that, similar to the man whether she knows it or not and whether she realizes it or not.
Due to this, we have not returned in these later times to seeing the adolescent virgin girls who are ashamed to let their vision fall upon a man. Rather, she, from the severity of her modesty, would cast her vision to the ground to look at her footsteps while she is walking. We have not returned to seeing this young lady who, the likes of her, was well known; even during the times of pre-Islamic ignorance, not to mention during the era of the early, radiant, pure Al-Islaam. In this vein, there has come within the Saheeh, in description of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) that he: “Was shyer than a virgin within her dwelling.”

This virgin to whom the leader of mankind (alayhis-salatu was-salaam) has been compared in his shyness, we have not returned to hearing about her in this time of ours. That is because in most instances the women resemble the men. There is no doubt that there are many reasons for this. From the most prominent of them, is the rule of the governments of the Kuffaar over many of the Islaamic lands, so that their habits, traditions, tastes, and their manners which are contrary to the upright disposition have spread therein. So the generations of people have inherited them and the male and female professors who claim to guide (the youth) have accepted them. All of these (people) have spread amongst this upcoming generation of young men and young ladies what they refer to as equality between women and men. So this is from the reasons from the spread of the scanty amount of modesty amongst the women which has made many of them to be masculine. From that in which there is no doubt is that the manliness of the woman makes her have a presumptive personality in front of her husband; perhaps raise her voice at him, and maybe she will humiliate him in front of some of his or her relatives (out of supposed) superiority on her part over her husband.
Where is this as it relates to that which has come in the farewell advice of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to the man regarding the women? This is substantiated by his (alayhis-Salaam) statement using a justification which is in complete opposition to the upbringing which we see in this present time. That is his (alayhis-Salaam) statement:

استوصوا بالنساء خيرًا ، فإنهن عوانٍ عندكم
“Treat the women well, for they are ‘awaan to you.”

The point of reference is that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) when he ordered with good treatment to the women in this Hadeeth, he (alayhis-Salaam) justified that by his statement:
فإنهن عوانٍ عندكم

“…for they are ‘awaan to you.”

Meaning, they are like slaves. The slave is not able to do anything with his master. Likewise, is the Muslim woman who conducts herself with the correct Islaamic manners. She is, with her husband, like a slave.
Due to this, he (alayhis-Salaam) feared for the men to be excessive, in this befitting description, towards the women and thus wield authority over them, compelling them, and oppressing them. For this reason he ordered with good treatment towards the women and me mentioned a reason for that; and that (reason) is his statement:

فإنهن عوانٍ عندكم
“…for they are ‘awaan to you.”

The women today have become such that the men are not in need of advice regarding them. Rather, the affair has changed and become such that the women are in need of being advised to treat the men well because they have become independent in their jobs and in their liberties. We often hear from some of them: “There is no difference therein between me and my husband. He is a spouse and I am a spouse. He is a partner and I am a partner with him in life.”
So it is upon the Muslim women who cling to their religion that if they are tried with anything from mixing with this society, that they try to save themselves from being affected by anything from this filth which many of the women have fallen into because of what we have mentioned from corruption in the upbringing and corruption of the society. This is a reminder and the reminder benefits the believer. As-Salaamu Alaykum.

May Allaah reward you with good, wa Alaykum As-Salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh.

Is It Permissible To Prevent The Women From Salaatul-Eid?

Al-Imaam Abdul-Azeez Ibn Abdillaah Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy upon him) answered this question:

"Salaatul-Eid is a communal obligation with many of the scholars. It is permissible for some individuals to remain behind and not attend. However, the person being present participating with his/her Muslim brothers/sisters is an emphasized Sunnah, which is not befitting to leave off ,except with a legislated excuse. Some of the scholars hold the position that Salaatul-Eid is an individual obligation similar to Salaatul-Jumu'ah. Therefore, it would not be permissible for the one who is held accountable from amongst the men, who are free and residents to remain behind from making the prayer. This statement is the most apparent from the evidences and closet to that which is correct. It is from the Sunnah for the women to be present along with them observing the proper Hijaab and covering without perfume. This is based upon that which is established in the Saheehayn (Bukhaari and Muslim) on the authority of Umm 'Atiyyah (may Allaah be pleased with her) she said:

"We were commanded to come out to the two Eids, the young, unmarried and the menstruating women in order to witness the good, the call of the Muslims and the menstruating women were to keep away from the prayer."

In  some wordings it was mentioned:

"One of them said: Oh Messenger of Allaah, (what are we to do if) one of us doesn't have a garment to come out in?"

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Let her sister cover her from her garments."

There is no doubt that this indicates the emphasis that is placed on the women coming out for the Salaatul-Eidayn and to witness the good and the call of the Muslims.

The Woman Who Doesn't Have a Mahram, is not Obligated to Make Hajj

Al-Imaam Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"From the capability (a condition for one to make Hajj) is that the woman finds for herself a Mahram (non-marriageable kin or husband).  If she doesn't have a Mahram for herself (to travel with her), in this case, the Hajj is not obligatory upon her. However, the scholars differ, is it obligatory upon her in this situation for her to send someone who will make the Hajj or Umrah on her behalf or not?

There are two statements from the scholars regarding this, based upon whether the presence of the Mahram is a condition for the obligation of performance, or is it a condition for the obligation itself. That which is well-known from the scholars of the Hanbali school of jurisprudence, May Allaah have mercy upon them, is that the Mahram is a condition for the obligation itself and that the woman who doesn't have a Mahram (to travel with her), then the Hajj is not obligatory upon her nor is it upon her to send someone to make the Hajj on her behalf.

These are the five conditions for the Hajj to become obligatory (upon a person): Islaam, Sound Mind, Puberty,  Free (not a slave),  and Capability. These condition includes both Hajj and Umrah."

What is the Ruling Regarding the Rows of the Women?

What Is The Ruling Regarding The Rows Of The Women?
Is The Worst Of The Rows The First and The Best The Last In All Circumstances, or Is This In The Case When There Is No Screen Between The Men And The Women?

Al-Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy upon him) responded to this question:

"That which is intended is when the men and women are in one place. In this case, the last rows for the women are better than the first rows. Just as the Prophet (sallaahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:

"The best rows of the women is the last of them and the worst of them are the first of them."

This was the case only because the last of the rows were the farthest away from the men and the first of them were the closest to the men. As for the case where the women have their own area, as we have today in most of the Masaajid, indeed the best of the rows of the women are the first of them similar to the men."

From The Rights Of The Husband Over The Wife Is That She Doesn't Give Her Day To Her Co-Wife Except With His Permission

On the authority of Aaishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said that Sawdah bint Zum'ah (may Allaah be pleased with her) gave her day to Aaishah (may Alaah be pleased with her)and the Prophet (Sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to give Aaishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) her day and the day of Sawdah (may be pleased with her). (Bukhaari 5212, Muslim 1463)

Imaam An-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"In this narration there is the permissibility of her (Sawdah) giving up her day to her co-wife (Aaishah). That's because it is her right. However, there's a condition, and it is that the husband has to be pleased with that. That is because he has a right regarding the wife who has given up her day and his right with her is not to be given away except with him being pleased with that. It is not permissible for her to take any compensation for the day that she has given up." (Explanation of Saheeh Muslim 10/302)

Al-Haafith Ibn Hajr Al-Asqalaani (may Alaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"The Ulamaa have said: When a woman has given her day to her co-wife the husband gives the co-wife that day. If it comes the day after her normal day then that's fine, if not, it's not for the husband to put forward that day in the scheduling in order for the days to be back to back, except with the agreement of the other wives who days come after the day of the co-wife who was given a day. The Ulamaa have also said: If the woman gives up her day to her co-wife and the husband accepts the day, it is not for the co-wife who has been given the day to refuse. If he doesn't accept it, he's not to be compelled to do so." (Fathul-Baari 9/390)

Imaam Ibn Al-Qudaamah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"It is permissible for the woman to give her right of time to her husband or to some of her co-wives or all of them. However it is not permissible to do this except with the husband being pleased with this. That is due to his right to enjoy his wife (i.e. the one who is giving up her day) not being removed except by him being pleased with that." (Al-Mughnee 7/38)

Imaam As-San'aanee (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"In this narration there is an evidence establishing the permissibility for the woman to give her day to her co-wife and the husband being pleased with this is taken into consideration. That is because he has the right to enjoy the wife (who wants to give up her day) and it's not for her to drop his right except with him being pleased with that." (Subulus-Salaam 3/257)

While Menstruating

On the authority of Aaisha (may Allaah be pleased with her) she stated:

"I used to wash the head of the Messenger of Allaah while I was menstruating."
(Saheeh Muslim #297)

On the authority of Aaisha (may Allaah be pleased with her) she stated:

"I used to drink (from a vessel) while I was menstruating, then I would give it to the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) to drink from. He would place his mouth on the place where my mouth was and then drink. I would also eat meat from a bone while I was menstuating, then I would give it to the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and He would place His mouth on the place where my mouth was."
(Saheeh Muslim #300)

Ibn Mundhir stated in Al-Awsat (2/104):

"In this there is evidence that the woman who is menstruating does not cause that which she touches to become impure being that her entire body is not impure. So when it is established that her body is not impure except for her privates, then it is established that that the impurity is in the private area due to the blood (of menstruation) being there and the rest of her body is pure."

The Muslim Woman

Umm Salamah As-Salafiyyah (may Allaah preserve her) stated:

And even though Islaam has indeed given the woman many rights, this doesn't mean that Islaam has given her unrestricted freedom in the matter of entering, leaving out, making a dazzling display of oneself when out in public, and mixing with men. Rather, Islaam has prohibited the matter of leaving out of the home in abundance without there being a need.

Allaah said:

"And remain in your homes, and do not make a dazzling display of yourself like that of the first pre-Islaamic time of ignorance..."
(Soorah Al-Ahzaab: 33)

The Wealth of the Woman

Shaykh Al-Albaani mentioned in Silsilah Al-Ahaadeeth As-Saheehah commenting on the Hadeeth of Waa-ilah (may Allaah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa salam) said:

"It is not for the woman to spend anything from her wealth, except with the permission of her husband."
(Silsilah al-Ahaadeeth as-Saheehah 2/338 #775)

Shaykh Al-Albaani (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said:

"It is not befitting for the husband, if he is a true Muslim, to take advantage of/misuse this ruling therefore transgressing against his wife, preventing her from spending her wealth in that which there's no good upon her from him. Therefore, if her husband transgressed against her and prevented her from spending her money in a manner that is legislated, then the judge is to straighten out the affair and give her justice."

Oh Muslim Woman

Shaykh Zayd Al-Madkhalee (may allaah preserve him) stated:

"Oh Muslim Woman, indeed Allaah has created you in the best form. He provided you with the intellect, senses, and limbs, by which you have the ability to fulfill that which is obligatory upon you to fulfill and abandon that which you have been prohibited from, from every statement and action which calamity will befall. He (Allaah) has obligated upon you to attain understanding of the religion in order for you to establish that which Allaah has made you responsible for, in a manner that Allaah wants, the Lord of the Creation, as well as being upon the methodology that the most noble of the Prophets, the master of the Messengers came with, beginning with "Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar" and it is the Tawheed of The Lord of The Creation."

A Man Teaching A Slave Woman And His Family

A Chapter From Bukhari’s Authentic Collection (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
Chapter: A Man Teaching A Slave Woman And His Family
(An exclusive translation for Sisters Upon Al-Istiqaamah)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

There are three who will receive their reward twice: a man from among the People of the Book who believed in his Prophet and then believed in me, a slave who fulfills his duty towards Allah and towards his master and a man who has a slave woman who he cultivated and educated well, then he freed her and married her; he will receive his reward twice.

Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr Al-‘Asqalaanee (may Allah have mercy upon him) said in his explanation of Saheeh Al-Bukhari entitled Fath Al-Baari (1/154):

“The connection between this hadeeth and the chapter heading as it applies to a slave woman is made clear by the wording of the text [i.e. the hadeeth]. As it relates to the family then this is derived through analogical deduction (Qiyaas) because being concerned with teaching the family who are not slaves the obligations which Allah has placed upon them and the Sunan of the Messenger of Allah is emphasized more than being concerned with the teaching of slave women.”

Wearing An 'Abaa'ah that has Sleeves....

Wearing An ‘Abaa’ah That Has Sleeves As An Outer Garment Is Like Wearing A Thawb
The Shaykh, ‘Allamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan
Exclusive Translation For Sisters Upon Istiqaamah

Question:

In recent times, an ‘abaa’ah (A woman’s outer garment), which is being referred to as the Islamic ‘abaa’ah, has become widespread. It is placed upon the head [1] but it has sleeves from the arms to the shoulders. What is your eminence’s opinion about wearing these types of outer garments?

Answer:

O my brothers, the ‘abaa’ah was only established to conceal (the woman) and it was not established for adornment; it is not a garment of adornment. It is impermissible for it to be taken as a means of adornment, to be embroidered, to place designs/drawings in it or to adjust it to have arms and thus become like a thawb (the gown worn by Muslim men). This would not be considered an ‘abaa’ah it would become a thawb.

The sole purpose of the ‘abaa’ah is for the woman to cover [correctly]. It should conceal her whole body like the large loose outer garment which is the Jilbaab. The intent behind it is to conceal the woman and it is not meant for adornment. Rather, it should conceal her adornments in front of [strange] males. It is not allowable to make [impermissible changes] to the ‘abaa’aat [plural of ‘abaa’ah] and to then call them Islamic.[2] This is an effort to improve sales as they are not Islamic; this is only to boost sales as the Islamic outer garment [‘abaa’ah] is the one that is concealing, spacious, thick and lacking any designs, embroidery and adornment. It should be plain and simple like this; it should not have anything on it. Yes.

[1] [TN] Sadly, many of the ‘abaa’ahs that are worn today do not even start from the head but are worn on the shoulders. Insha Allah, in the coming weeks we will translate some of the verdicts of the scholars concerning this along with the proofs and evidences.
[2] [TN] This is a piece a beautiful advice that should be heeded by those who sell women’s clothing; they should be extremely careful what they sell as some garments are designed to be purposely tight and others are examples of what the Shaykh has stated are impermissible. Laxity in this area has even plagued by some of those who ascribe to the Sunnah in the West. May Allah guide the Muslims and allow them to implement the Quran and the Sunnah as practised by the companions.

Boycotting of One's Wife

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan was asked:

Q.  From that which is known is that it is not permissible to boycott a Muslim for more than three days.  Therefore, what is the ruling regarding that which takes place between the husband and the wife of boycotting.  Whether he boycotted her to discipline her, or for a reason other than that?

A.  If disobedience comes from the wife regarding the right of the husband and he admonished her but she retracts her ill behavior, he can boycott her in the bed.  Meaning, he doesn't sleep with her and he doesn't speak to her.  Also, he turns his face away from her until she repents.  This doesn't contradict the prohibition of the Muslim boycotting his brother for more than three days.  That is because this boycotting is restricted to the bed.  That which is prohibited is the unrestricted boycotting.  Or, it can be said, that which is prohibited is the boycotting which takes place for other than the reason of disobedience.  As for the nushooz of the wife, it is considered disobedience which makes boycotting her permissible.

None of you should beat his wife

On the authority of Abdullaah ibn Zum'ah (May Allaah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"None of you should beat his wife like the beating of a slave then go and have relations with her at the end of the day"
(Al-Bukhaari and Muslim)

Points of benefit from Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen (May Allaah have mercy upon him) regarding this hadeeth:

"The meaning of this hadeeth is that along with this beating of her, he has relations with her at the end of the day. This is not befitting. That is because having relations bring about love, so for you (the man) to have relations with her at the end of the day while at the beginning of the day you beat her like the beating of a slave, with a severe beating, negates the normality (of how spouses are to live with one another). Therefore, that which is normal necessitates that as long as you are in need of enjoying her companionship, you should not beat her with this type of beating which will have a negative effect upon her heart and love for you. This is from the good teachings of the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) for His nation. For indeed this action (of beating the wife like she's a slave then having relations with her at the end of the day) is combining between two opposites. At the beginning of the day the man beats her like the beating of a slave, and then at the end of the day he has relations with her. These are two contradictory matters."

Characteristics Of The Salafi Woman

Characteristics Of The Salafi Woman
By The Reviver Of The Sunnah In Yemen, Shaykh Muqbil Ibn Haadee Al-Waadi’ee
(May Allah have mercy upon him)
An Exclusive Translation for Sisters Upon Al-Istiqaamah

1. She clings to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as much as she is able with the understanding of the rightly guided predecessors (As-Salaf As-Saalih).

2. It is also befitting for her to deal with the Muslims in a just and good way and even with the non-Muslims. For verily Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said,

And speak politely to the people.  [Al-Baqarah: 83]

And He said,

Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due.  [An-Nisaa: 58]

And He also said,

And if you speak, then be just. [Al-An’aam: 158]

And He said, the Glorified and the Most High,

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.  [An-Nisaa: 135]

3. Likewise, it is obligatory upon her to wear the Islamic dress and distance herself from imitating the enemies of Islam. Imam Ahmad collected in his Musnad a hadeeth that was narrated by ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who said that the Messenger of Allah said,

“Whoever imitates a people is from them.”

And the Lord of Mighty said concerning the matter of [the women’s] dress,

O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.  [Al-Ahzaab: 59]

Imam At-Tirmidhee collected the hadeeth in his Jaami’ that was narrated by ‘Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“The woman is to be concealed for when she leaves out the Devil beautifies her.”

4. We advise her to be dutiful to her husband if she truly desires a happy life. For verily the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“If the husband calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, then the angels curse her.” Collected by Bukhari and Muslim

In [the hadeeth] in Saheeh Muslim [the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,]

“Then the One who is above the heaven is angry with her.”

5. She should also fulfil the responsibility of raising and educating her children in an Islamic fashion. Bukhari and Muslim narrate in their authentic collections upon the authority of ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar who said that the Messenger of Allah said,

"All of you are shepherds and all of you will be asked about his flock.”

And he (peace and blessings be upon) mentioned concerning the woman that she :

“Is responsible for the household of her husband and she will be questioned about those in her care.”

In the two authentic collections [Bukhari and Muslim] from the hadeeth of Ma’qil Ibn Yasaar who said that the Messenger of Allah said,

“There is no person to whom Allaah has placed people under his care and he fails to take care of them properly, except that he will not smell the fragrance of Paradise.”

It is unfitting that Da’wah busies her from raising and cultivating her children.

To be continued...

Were There Any Female Prophets?

Were There Any Female Prophets?

And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know.

Al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:

“This means that all of the messengers who preceded (him) were men from among mankind.” Tafseer Ibn Katheer (3/174)

Al-‘Allaamah Ash-Shanqeeti (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:

“It is understood from these verses that Allah never sent a woman as a messenger, ever.” Adwaa Al-Bayaan (3/250)

Al-‘Allaamah As-Sa’dee (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:

“In this verse is a proof that no woman was ever a Prophet, not Maryam (Mary) or other than her, due to His Saying, “Except men.”
Tayseer Al-Kareem Ar-Rahmaan (3/269)

Actually Shaykh Al-Islaam (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated that a consensus was reached on this matter and any opposition to this stance is considered anomalous and erroneous.

He said:

“Al-Qaadhee Abu Bakr, Al-Qaadhee Abu Ya’la, Abul Ma’aalee and others have stated that there is unanimous agreement that there was never a female Prophet from amongst the women. And this is proven by the Quran and the Sunnah as we find in His Saying,

“And We sent not before you [as messengers] except men to whom We revealed from among the people of cities.” [Yusuf: 109]

and His Saying,
“The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth.” [Al-Ma'idah: 75]...” Majmoo’ Al-Fataawa (4/396)

Imam Ahmed, Musnad (1/391), and others reported upon the authority of Ibn Mas’ood that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No slave is afflicted with anxiety and grief, and then says:

‘O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your male slave, son of Your female slave. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgement upon me is assured and whatever you have decreed for me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, revealed in Your Book, taught one of Your creation or which You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen with You that You make the Qur’aan the spring of my heart and the light of my chest, a banisher for my grief and a reliever for my anxiety.’

Except that Allaah will replace his distress and grief with joy.”

He was asked, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, should we not learn it?’ He said, “Of course, whoever hears it should learn it.”

Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) was asked about a woman who heard the hadeeth: ‘O Allah, I am Your slave , son of Your male slave, son of Your slave. My forelock is in Your hand...(to the end of the hadeeth. And she continuously used this wording. So she was instructed to say, “O Allah I am your female slave  daughter of Your female slave- until the end of it.” However, she refused to say this and persisted upon the original wording. Is she correct in this or not?

He responded:
“Rather, it is befitting for her to say, “O Allah, I am Your female slave (أمتك), daughter (بنت) of Your male slave (عبدك), son of Your female slave (أمتك).”
اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَمَتك بِنتُ عَبْدِك ابْنِ أَمَتِك

This is more appropriate and better even though her statement “I am your slave (عبدك), son (ابن) of your slave” has a angle in the Arabic language like the word Zawj (i.e. which can be used for man or wife). And Allah knows best.”
Majmoo’ Al-Fataawa Vol. 22, p. 488.

So according to Shaykh Al-Islam it is better for women to say:

اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَمَتك بِنتُ عَبْدِك ابْنِ أَمَتِك

And the rest of the supplication is exactly the same.

O Noble Female Students

The Advice Of Shaykh, Al-‘Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan To The Female Students
O Noble Female Students
22/1/1432 corresponds to 28/12/2010

There is no doubt that the woman enjoys a lofty station in Islam and that she has a great responsibility upon her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to devote a specific admonition to the women after he had finished admonishing the men; and they [i.e. the female companions] sought from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a specific gathering where they could present their problems to him and he responded [positively] to their request and he allotted for them a specific gathering.

And likewise you, O noble students, should prepare yourselves for this great responsibility. Therefore, it is obligatory upon you to learn the affairs of the religion and the rulings that are specific to the women, which will meet your requirements.

There has come in the noble Quran verses and surahs that are specific to women and the like is found in the PropheticSunnah. An example of this [from the Sunnah] is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “Treat the women kindly.”

Similarly, he (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against their fitnah if they are negligent, saying: “Fear the [allurement] of the women. Verily the first trial of the children of Isra’eel was with the women.” And he said: “I have not left after me a trial more severe to the men than the women.”

All of this proves that the woman has a very important role. This is because the women are the mothers of the society and they are the pillar of the households.

Allah, the Most High said:
Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allāh has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allāh would have them guard. [An-Nisaa: 34]

And Allah, the Most High said:
Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allāh often and the women who do so – for them Allāh has prepared forgiveness and a great reward. [Al-Ahzaab: 35]

And Allah, the Most High said:
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. [Tawbah: 71]

He, the Most High said,

The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right.
[At-Tawbah: 67]

He, the Exalted mentioned that among the women there are Muslims and Mu’minaat (believers), and there are hypocrites and polytheists. So it is upon you, O female students, to understand these verses and act upon them.

And it is upon you to act upon those verses that contain the mannerisms and etiquettes to be observed by the women; He, the Most High said,

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts.
[An-Noor: 31]

And He, the Most High said,

O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.
[Al-Ahzaab: 59]

O noble female students, be wary of the misleading propaganda, which claims that Islam oppresses the woman because surely they have lied. Verily Islam has honoured the woman, protected her and safeguarded her rights.

In reality, those who have oppressed the woman are those who desire for her to forsake the legislated mannerisms and etiquettes which protect her dignity and show her compassion; and they want her to imitate the disbelieving western woman who has reached such an ignoble and dishonourable state where she lives with despicable individuals in exchange for the usage of her private parts [i.e. as a sex object] for as long as she is young and when she becomes old she is thrown into an old people’s home or she lives with a pack of dogs with which she keeps company as she has no children or family.

Where is she compared to the Muslim woman who lives in a fortified house, heads a family, takes care of her husband’s wealth, raises a generation and enjoys such a prestigious place in her society!

Part 3 to follow insha Allah...
